IMT-Ghaziabad joins consortium to help boost much-needed entrepreneurship in India

In a major move to boost entrepreneurship in India, Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad to collaborate on research related to entrepreneurship.

IMT will participate in this collaborative research through CRICKET, its Centre for Rural Innovation, Capacity Building, Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Management and Technology, whereas ISB will participate through its Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (WCED).

The goal is to organize and publish high-quality research on entrepreneurship in India, particularly under the auspice of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) with the aim being to promote entrepreneurship to increase economic development in India.

The consortium will organize a nationwide Adult Population Survey (APS), a National Expert Survey (NES) and publish a Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) India Report for 2012.

Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is a consortium of national teams, and GEM research projects involve an annual assessment of the national level of entrepreneurial activity by each national team.

The preparation of GEM reports is overseen by the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association (GERA), a not-for-profit organization governed by representatives of national teams, two founding institutions (London Business School, UK and Babson College, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) and various sponsoring institutions.

Entrepreneurship is key to India’s economic success, having played a pivotal role in the country’s emergence as a prospering society. High-quality collaborative research on Indian entrepreneurship is needed to understand its unique features, make it a more widespread phenomenon across India and facilitate more equitable sharing of the emerging prosperity.

In addition to publishing GEM India Reports, the consortium of IMT, ISB and EDI will carry out high-quality collaborative research on entrepreneurship within, as well as outside, the spectrum covered by GEM.
