Prof. B.D. Singh holds a Master's Degree from Patna University and PMIR from Ranchi University, standing first in first class in both the disciplines. He is also an L.L.B. from Ranchi University and MBA (condensed) from IIM, Calcutta.

He was Professor (HRM) at MDI prior to joining IMT. He has also been a Visiting Professor to IIMC, ASCI, EMPI, IILM, IMA, NPC, XIMB, DAVIM, LBSIM, FIIBM, FORE, Patna University, Calcutta University, Magadh University, Utkal University, Andhra University, Vizaq etc. He has been associated with IGNOU as Course Designer, writer of course materials, teacher and evaluator HRM, IR and Labour-Laws.

He has received a number of awards such as the University Gold Medal in B.A. (Hons.) and M.A., Navaratna Award at Mauritius in 1996 and best HRD Professional by the Academy of Mass communication, Bhubaneshwar in 1997.

He has attended various training programmes organised in India and abroad for Senior Management including Advanced Management Programme organised by ASCI, Asia Pacific Association of HRM, Hong Kong. His teaching, research and consultancy interests are Industrial Relations, Management of Contract Labour, Management of Industrial Adjustments, Industrial Separation (VRS etc.), Management of Industrial Discipline, Labour Laws, Positive Work Culture Building, Participative Management and Empowerment, Corporate Governance specially in Disinvestment of PSUs and Ethical Aspects of Management and Value-based Management in Indian Ethos, etc.

He has held top management positions in various large organizations such as NALCO, Vizaq Steel Plant and SAIL. He also has a rich entrepreneurial consultancy background. He has been a consultant to IPCL, RINL, NEEPCO, SJVN, NALCO, BALCO, ONGC, NHPC, MMTC, NTPC, MUL, HERO HONDA, KPMG etc.

He is a member of professional societies such as NIPM, ISTD, HRD Network and Indian Society for Industrial Relations. He is also member of the National Board of Accreditation of AICTE, Government of India.

He has widely travelled abroad. He has visited more than 20 countries including Japan, Australia, France, U.K., USA, Canada, Middle-East countries and the Far East countries.

As a prolific writer, he has published over 85 articles/papers in national and international journals of academic repute. He has been a regular speaker or AIR Cuttack on various topics and IGNOU's Gyan Darshan channel on HR/IP topics. He is also in the Editorial Board of 'Award' (V.V. Giri National Labour Institute) and 'Abhigyan' (FORE). He is Associate Dean – MDP & Consultancy.
