Technology and knowledge are becoming the buzzwords of the new millennium. As the technology is leapfrogging beyond the speed of light, enormous activities are underway in research and development areas paving ways for new and newer technologies day by day and also resulting into the emergence of new areas of technology. These rapid pace of developments in the field of science and technology are also leading towards a new class of knowledge savvy entrepreneurs and knowledge/technology driven enterprises, which are being recognized as an important factor for the economic development of nations and a source of value-added employment generation. At the same time, the process of globalization, establishment of World Trade Organization, stricter quality and environmental considerations, imposition of trade barriers by developed countries, information technology revolution continues to adversely affect the conventional/traditional competitive advantage of the small and medium industries in the developing countries and threaten their survival in the marketplace.

NOTING that the past decade has seen unprecedented growth and expansion in tools and methodologies for information technology and information management and that these developments include expansion of global computer networks, rapid advances in more affordable computing capacities, and greatly enhance capacity to manipulate technological advances from electronic documents to a large Business Plan.

RECOGNIZING that a global “DIGITAL DIVIDE” has emerged, separating those with access to Information Technology networks and resources from those without. While some organizations have yet to sense and respond to this confluence of changes, others have re-thought their entire business model and the manner in which they interact with this Information economy.

Centre for Excellence in Strategic Information Management has been created in response to growing need for building expertise in managing and using information and knowledge for enhancing global competitiveness and economic growth.

 
The Vision
 

To provide life-long learning, information activities and environments for independent study and self-directed, interactive and collaborative learning. In partnership with the Institute faculty, the centre will support academic excellence for current and anticipated instructional programs. It will lead the Institute in the acquisition and management of information resources and in the creative and effective use of new technologies.

 

The Objectives of the Centre

  • To identify a strategic direction for organizations to harness the benefits of Supply Chain Management and to achieve stated corporate goals.
  • To provide an environment to model, analyse, and design supply chain process - both operational and strategic.
  • To evaluate Supply Chain processes using pilot implementation with the help of information management tools.
  • To optimize supply chain process, thereby making the organization globally competitive in the present knowledge-based economy.

The goal of Centre is to select, organize and maintain the resources and materials which support the teaching, research and public service programs of the Institute.

 

The Centre strives to provide education and career development programmes that enhance career opportunities in the area of supply chain management as well as promote involvement of individuals with the broadest possible backgrounds in its programmes and activities, thereby assuming that the organizations benefit from the diversity of its members.

  • To improve efficiency in the acquisition and processing of information resources and materials.
    • Identify measurable outcomes to assess and evaluate workflows and develop an evaluation tool to do so.
    • Using the evaluation tool(s), assess and evaluate workflows and procedures.
    • Using the results of the evaluation, restructure workflows to improve efficiency.
    • Reassess and refine changed workflows for improved efficiency
  • To more fully utilize current and future technology-enhanced tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
    • Assess and evaluate currently-available technology-enhanced tools for possible integration.
    • Integrate chosen technology tools into workflows
    • Evaluate the performance of new workflows
    • Adjust workflows accordingly
