As a torch bearer in management education since 1980, IMT has over 5,000 strong alumni spread across various corners of the globe. IMT’s alumni head corporations.

Many alums in high places return to the B-School to address guest lectures and talk to the students about the ‘real’ career scene. And many, in hindsight, acknowledge that the very name IMT opens doors for them to step into. IMT’s alumni shine in their respective fields. They climb up corporate ladders and prosper both in their careers and personal lives. Mr. Laxmi Kant Gupta, belonging IMT’s batch of 1991 is now CMO at LG India. He returned to his B-School and talked on the Changing Role of Marketing, discussing present markets, the need to innovate and initiate change. “The customer is changing, becoming smarter and is spoilt for choice,” he said.

All the alumni have found functional and personalized learning at IMT. For example, entrepreneur Rajeev Karwal, Founder and CEO of Milagrow says, “IMT grilled me to strive hard to realize my true potential. It prepared me to be the best in my chosen profession, in the industry, also teaching me the value of patience, perseverance and hard work.”

Unafraid to lead, IMT’s alumni community is very active. Its regional chapters are spread across India and all over the globe. Events and initiatives are organized by these chapters at a regional and national level. A dedicated online portal helps the alumni connect with each other. Here they can network online, share career opportunities, exchange information, learn from each other’s experiences or simply stay in touch.

Always in touch with their alma mater, the alumni see great value in participating in events organized by the IMT students. HARMONY, the HR and Finance Week, organized by Alcom saw wholehearted participation from alums. Many of them gave guest lectures and spent time with the students as they quizzed and debated on issues related to HR and Finance. Nitin Khanna, CEO, Aantrishti Human Develop Solutions Ltd, judged the debate during the week. The topic he chose – Zero Corruption is Anti-Development and an Impractical Goal – was an interestingly happening one. A volatile debate ensued: in India, every citizen has an opinion on corruption which is openly rampant in all echelons of officialdom and is ingrained into our psyche.

During the same HARMONY week, Kausik Chatterjee of the 2002 batch, and currently Regional Manager, HR, Samtel Group, talked at a guest lecture on HR Effectiveness and Balance Scorecard. His take was fascinating as he drew a synergy between the balance scorecard in a corporate situation and how students could incorporate it in life. With the scorecard tool, they could manage their time and aspirations better.

On the fun front, the Alumni from the 2001 batch had their Bees Saal Baad (After 20 years) get-together. For them, it was yesterday once more. The 35 member gang partied and danced. Laughter rang out, spontaneous and from the heart.

Speaking of reunions, the 1984 batch had theirs too. During the get-together, the idea of Helping Hands came up. It is a platform that encourages meritorious children of the class four workers of IMT with scholarships. The idea took shape and a trust was formed. Funds poured in from all over the world and the idea became a reality. Five youngsters benefited from this generous venture, which has now become an annual event.

Another highlighted reunion came in the form of Yaadein. It was the 1986 batch’s silver anniversary. Forgetting worries, time, balding pates and expanding waistlines many of them arrived with spouses and had a rollicking time. They recreated 1986. As they camped out in the hostel for one night, Ashutosh Pandey said, “It was great to reconnect with old buddies and relive those magic moments again.”

Moving on, Sudhir Agarwal of the 1990 batch is currently CEO of Wire and Wireless (India) Ltd. He has been interviewed several times over by different media. He is confident of India’s future in the broadband sector’s success in getting rural India internet connectivity. The end of every business success is consumer satisfaction, and Agarwal is sure that is what Wire and Wireless India is headed towards. It is ranked among the best 400 Mid Cap Companies in India.
